Kershaw, S.C. (12/31/2025) – Kershaw Area Resource Exchange (KARE) received a big surprise during the 24-hour Give Local fundraiser, sponsored by the Arras Foundation.  On November 14, 2025, KARE leadership was notified by the Leadership Kershaw Foundation via email that the organization had been awarded a $20,000 grant to support its mission of assisting neighbors experiencing financial crisis and food insecurity.

“We are very excited to continue our partnership with the Leadership Kershaw Foundation!  Our staff was blown away by the generosity of the foundation’s gift on Give Local day.  The gift truly epitomizes what KARE is all about:  neighbors helping neighbors” said Olivia Hann, KARE’s Assistant Director and Public Relations manager.

Leadership Kershaw seeks to enrich the people and community of Kershaw, South Carolina by funding individual and community growth grounded in biblical wisdom and the teachings of Jesus Christ. It also supports youth-focused and other board-defined worthy initiatives that encourage long-term community vitality and would not otherwise be possible without its funding.

“KARE meets basic human needs, which is a prerequisite for any individual or family to grow, participate in the community, or take advantage of youth programs.  Helping those in need, feeding the hungry, clothing families, and supporting those less fortunate, is a direct expression of the teachings of the Bible and an example of Christ's example of service and compassion,” said Alan Sims, Leadership Kershaw Board Member.   “We hope that with our donation, children stay fed, clothed, and safe, parents can experience less stress and financial pressure, and families can remain rooted in Kershaw rather than leaving due to hardship.”
